Wheels to Work

This moped-loan and bicycle scheme aims to help people access employment, training or education that would otherwise be inaccessible due to poor public transport connections or out-of-hour work patterns.

There are a number of conditions for our Moped Loan Scheme that applicants must meet in order to be eligible, but some of the main criteria include:

a minimum lower age limit of 16
the possession of at least a provisional driving licence
the means to pay the weekly fees for a moped
live in County Durham
be employed /apprentice/ further education or have a firm offer
The scooter loan costs £30 per week, and participants receive a wide range of benefits, including full personal protective equipment (brand new helmet, gloves, jacket, high visibility vest, and heavy duty lock), insurance, break-down cover, road tax and servicing, as well as motorcycle training at Ace Motorcycles in Durham.

The bicycle scheme is a one-off payment of £40 for a refurbished bicycle, plus a helmet, lights, lock and a puncture repair kit and the bike is yours to keep.
